My Top 5 Affordable Make Up Picks

I have never actually been one to wear tonnes of make up as I was growing up; most days at school I would wear no make up and would only tend to wear mascara and bronzer when going out on the weekend… However, things have changed – over the last couple of years I have started to wear a bit more make up on a regular basis. I still don’t wear it every day as my skin tends to react badly when I have been wearing make up for a while. Despite this, I have now found some products that I absolutely love and I also now feel more confident when it comes to the application of the actual make up. Everyone has their own products that they swear by and so I thought I’d use this post to introduce you to my top 5 favourite high street make up products that I now can’t live without. So, without further ado, let’s get on with it!

First up is THE best eyebrow pencil on the planet. I first used this about a year ago as I wanted to find an alternative to my ‘Maybelline Brow Precise Micro Pencil’. I did a bit of research and read a few blog posts on the best high street eyebrow pencils out there, and this NYX one seemed to be one of the favourites. So, one day I thought you know what lets just go for it and see if it lives up to everyone’s reviews. It definitely did. After a few practice runs, I started to understand what all the hype was about. This pencil is only £9 and comes in 8 different shades, so there is a choice for everyone. It seems to last forever and I also really love the fact it has a spoolie on the end, so you can brush the product out as you go! 10/10 would recommend.

NYX Professional Makeup Micro Brow Pencil – Brunette

Next is also a product I have recently discovered. This foundation is by far my favourite one out there. It’s lightweight, natural and hydrating formula makes it feel as if you’re not wearing any make up at all. It really brightens your face and gives you a dewy glow without looking OTT. I find it perfect to wear on evenings out and I also find that other products, such as contour sticks, blend really well into its silky formula. It is a serum based foundation so is great for anyone with sensitive/dry skin looking for a light/medium coverage foundation. In terms of the price tag, it comes in at just over £10 but it is definitely worth every penny!

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation

Okay, so I’m still trying to come to terms with how to properly contour your face. In the past, I’ve always tended to reach for contour powders as I always thought powders would be so much easier to blend out. WELL, I can now tell you that is a complete load of rubbish! This contour stick has been a lifesaver, it’s not only a dream to blend but is also the perfect shade for me (I wear shade ‘medium’). NYX currently do this product in 5 different shades and they all have a highlighter on the end too – bonus! It is compact but great at it’s job and I’ll definitely be using this for a long long time.

NYX Professional Makeup Wonder Stick

All I can say, is thank GOD someone invented this. At £1.99 (YES, you heard me right!) this brow and lash clear mascara is just what I needed in my make up bag. I find it so useful (once I’ve had my brows waxed and tinted) to use this to style my brows without using any other products. It leaves them looking so natural, but just gives them that extra bit of shape and definition when I’m wearing a full face of make up. I also love brushing this through the front of my brows after I have used my favourite NYX brow pencil to fill them in. After a while it does become a bit discoloured, however this is expected, and at just £1.99 it’s easily replaceable.

Collection Colour Lash Mascara – Clear

Last but not least is my favourite mascara EVER. This ‘Snapscara’ mascara is one of Maybelline’s latest releases, and I only actually started using it after I saw Emma Louise Connolly promoting it on Instagram. I tend to choose definition over volume when it comes to mascara so this one is just perfect for me. The wand is such a great shape and it is so easy to apply. I always buy the shade ‘very black’ as it adds that extra bit of depth to your lashes whilst still making them look natural. Perfect for every day use and it’s only £7.99, what’s not to like!

Maybelline Mascara Snapscara – Very Black

So, there you have it – these are my current top 5 make up picks on the high street right now. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this post and would love to know if any of you end up trying any of these products! Also, don’t forget to follow my blog to keep up to date on my latest posts!
