How to Look After Your Skin this Winter

First and foremost, HAPPY (belated) NEW YEAR EVERYONE! Now that Christmas and New Year are over, it’s time to get back into our everyday routines and with this in mind, I thought it would be a great time to write a little post about my current fave skincare products.

January and February are some of the coldest months in the year and for me, these are the months where my skin really seems to suffer. My skin is normally quite dry anyway, so, when I choose new products to start using I have to ensure that these are super moisturising for my skin. Most of the products in this post though, are suitable for all skin types as they aren’t too harsh on your skin and are actually quite neutral in terms of their fragrances. So, without further ado, let’s get started on my current fave washes, scrubs, masks and moisturisers.

First up is a face wash I have been using for years; it is a holy grail product in my skincare routine and simply one that I cannot live without. It is the Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Refreshingly Clear Daily Exfoliator. You can buy this at pretty much any supermarket in the UK, and in any Boots or Superdrug on the high street. It is so affordable as it’s under £5 and a lot of the time it is actually included in promotions and so it only comes to around £3.50! As it’s an exfoliating scrub I wouldn’t really recommend this if you’ve got very sensitive skin, however this depends on how thorough you wash your face as a quick scrub won’t hurt you. It’s extremely refreshing (as the name says) and makes your skin feel squeaky clean. I can’t recommend this one enough, and you’ll only fully understand why when you start using it yourself.

Next up is another face wash but one that I have been recently introduced to. Last winter my skin was really dry and actually quite sore around my cheeks and mouth. So one day I was shopping and decided to pop into The Body Shop. Before this, I hadn’t really shopped at The Body Shop much, although I always heard people raving about their skincare ranges so I thought I’d test them for myself. The staff in The Body Shop are very helpful and they always take time to actually help you find something suitable for your skin combination. And if you don’t know your personal skin combination, don’t worry – they offer a free skin consultation and test in order for you to find the right product for yourself. They suggested that I should try their ‘Vitamin E’ skincare range so I bought the face wash, moisturiser and oil serum. The face wash was definitely my favourite product out of the three and ever since I’ve been using it, I have seen really positive results. Because of it’s creamy texture, it is extremely moisturising and leaves your skin glowing for days. What’s not to love?!

Face masks are definitely my favourite part of a skincare routine. Washing your face on a daily basis can become sort of like a chore, however, since I only use face masks once in a while, it feels kind of like a treat. I love applying them and just having time to relax while they work their magic. I have tried at least four of the different L’Oréal face masks and I love every single one, however this has to be my favourite. These masks are usually about £8 but they have at least 10 applications in them so it definitely makes them worthwhile. This one in particular is great for removing impurities and excess oils from your skin and it leaves you feeling really fresh after you’ve washed it all off. I can assure you that this will be part of my skincare routine for many more years to come.

Until about a year ago, I had never really tried using a toner on my skin. However, ever since I got this Pixi Rose Tonic in a beauty advent calendar two Christmas’ ago, I’ve been hooked. I love how bright and alive your skin looks after using this and the smell is just divine. It’s £18 for 250ml but every penny is worth it. It makes your skin feel really soothed but radiant at the same time, and it’s the perfect base before applying your make up as it just gives you that extra bit of glow.

After wearing the Simple Light Moisturiser for years, I have finally switched to their new replenishing rich moisturiser. As a matter of fact, I do actually prefer this one as it makes your skin feel a lot more hydrated than the light moisturiser and it is also less of a watery formula. Granted, it may not be the thickest and most luxurious moisturiser on the planet, but it does a great job for a very good price. In addition to this, it can be bought at any Boots or Superdrug across the UK. It is extremely refreshing and it is the answer for all skin types! Plus it’s under £5!

So, that wraps up my current favourite skincare products. I use most of these products on a daily basis and have been doing so for quite a while. But as I already mentioned, my skin is fairly dry so if you’re the same I would 100% recommend these products, otherwise if you know you react to certain ingredients/your skin is quite sensitive or oily, then definitely check on the back of the products before you buy them.

I hope you liked this post and found it useful, and if you would like to see more like this then let me know 🙂
