Welcome to My Blog!

Hi everyone, so first thing’s first – for those who don’t know me, my name is Lydia and I’m a 20 year old Fashion Branding with Communications student at Leeds Arts University. After wanting to start a blog for quite a while now, I’ve finally decided to sit down and get my act together to write my first ever blog post… so here goes!

Throughout these last couple of years, I have really started to focus on things that make me happy. After finishing my A-Levels I started studying Geography at Lancaster University, but without a clear goal in mind, I was slightly confused as to why I was even there. I never really felt like I was fully engaged in the course whilst at Lancaster and I could only see myself becoming a Geography teacher at the end of it all – which didn’t really sit well with me. So, after six months of being there I decided to follow my gut and withdraw… It was a difficult and quite scary decision as I met some fab friends there and felt as though I had a second little home, but I knew deep down that it was the right thing to do.

After withdrawing, I took a long time to think about what I actually wanted to do. Last summer I started working for a Law Firm as an admin assistant, however this was only for a summer job and my main focus at this point was to just earn some money to save up to go travelling. After finishing working at the Law Firm, my boyfriend and I then went interrailing for a month all around Europe. It was such an amazing, nerve-racking experience and I only wish that we went for longer. Whilst on our trip, my boyfriend asked me a few times “What is it that you really want to do Lyd?”; “What can you see yourself doing every single day as a job in the future?”. In other words, “What is your dream job?!”. Every time he asked this, I answered with something art/fashion related; i.e. something where I can be creative and be myself.

I studied Art, Geography and Religious Studies at A-Level and always had a real passion for art. In fact, when applying to Lancaster University I remember my Granny questioning my decision and suggesting that I should study an Art degree at uni instead. Little did I know, she was right.

After returning home from travelling, I was still unsure that uni was right for me and I said to myself that if I ever went back to uni, that I’d stay in Leeds and commute from home…

I then started working at Booths Supermarket as I tried to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. After working there for about a month, I started my fashion Instagram page (@lydiafleurfashion) which I used to document my everyday outfits and to find creative inspiration. After posting on my page for about two months, I realised that this is definitely the industry that I want to work in. So, I started doing my research and after a few weeks, I decided to apply to Leeds Arts University to study the Fashion Branding with Communications course. A month later, I attended an interview at the uni and within just one day I received an unconditional offer to start there this September just gone. As you can imagine, I was absolutely over the moon and couldn’t wait to start something new with a clear direction of where I wanted to end up in the future.

Fast-forward three months and I have now just finished my first term at Leeds Arts Uni and honestly I could not have chosen a better course to study! I absolutely love the structure of the course and the freedom you get with studying an art degree. I have already learnt so many new skills and I am so excited for the possible outcomes and opportunities that this course can offer me.

So here we are, the first post on my blog page… I thought it would be useful to give you a short summary and a bit of background about myself, and for you to know the true reason behind me starting my blog page. I am going to use this blog to write about things that genuinely interest me whether these are fashion, lifestyle or travel related – but my blog’s main purpose is to create a community and to inspire others to do what makes them happy. I hope you all enjoyed reading this and I hope you all enjoy my future posts.
