Following the ‘Fashion Through The Decades’ miniseries that I uploaded on my blog last week, I thought I would do one last post to finish it off… Fashion of the Future! For this blog post I have researched some of the biggest trends that are predicted to blow up summer 2020 and to carry on all throughout this year into 2021. Due to lockdown, now is a great time to get those online steals and to make sure that you’re ahead of the game with your wardrobe!
Obviously, as the fashion trend cycle runs like clockwork, this isn’t the first debut for some of these trends, but they are certainly ones you are going to see a lot more of in the next few months. So, without further ado, let’s get started!
THE PUFF SLEEVE
If you were having doubts that the puff sleeve trend was on its way out, think again! This trend is here to stay in 2020 and the bigger the sleeve let me tell you, the better. It’s a flattering style for any body type and you can’t really go wrong… The added volume and drama to your shoulders will give the illusion of a smaller waist so it’s ideal for those of you wanting to make an unforgettable statement next season! When it comes to styling, personally I think these sleeves look great paired with something a little more edgy, for example flares, or the classic 90s dad trainer. But of course, if you’re after the glam look they look fab paired with any statement earrings or a pair of sleek sunnies!
This beauty I am wearing is from Topshop however it has currently sold out, so I have linked some of my other faves down below!
Over the last year or so, the blazer has become a vital staple in both millennials and Gen Z’s wardrobes, and this year they’re back out to play… For many, blazers are a go-to when trying to elevate a minimal look without making it too complicated. They’re practical, sensible and so affordable these days, you’d be silly not to have at least one of these hiding in your wardrobes. Although saying this though, I only dived into the blazer club a couple of months ago when I bought this gorgeous black everyday blazer from Topshop. Now you may be questioning why a blazer has squeezed itself into this edit of future trends, however, it’s because all kinds of blazers are expected to hit the high street very soon as we start to look for that perfect autumnal layer to get us through AW20/21.
Although this one may not be the most exciting trend coming our way, they’re definitely easy to pull off and they’re the ideal top to lounge around in during lockdown! These racer crop tops are becoming a key T-shirt style for 2020, and they’re quickly proving to be a great alternative to the classic white tee, which has kinda lost it’s charm if you ask me! Personally, I love the shape of these racer tops, and they are so damn affordable; plus they’re perfect to show off your inner 90s cool. I currently have two racer back tops in my wardrobe (pictured and linked below), however, seeing as they are only £3.99 from Zara right now (with free delivery, may I add), I might just have to order them in every single colour, brb…
THE UPDATED TRENCH
After months of puffers, parkas and faux fur, we finally find ourselves reunited with the classic trench… but this time, it’s with a difference. It’s an ideal jacket for layering up in spring and does well at protecting you from the rain, without losing your cool and continues to make you look ultra chic. This spring and autumn, the trench will be given a makeover as designers and brands start experimenting with layers, colours and various fabrics to rework this iconic piece into new architectural shapes… The one I am wearing below is from Zara, however I have linked some of my favourite reinvented trenches underneath if you’re after some inspo and want to ensure that you’re on trend this spring!
Other 2020 trends include baggy Bermuda shorts, accentuated bralets, warm weather leathers and all I’ll say is expect to be seeing a lot more green in shops from now on…
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this future fashion edit that I have put together. As you can see, a lot of future trends are often based on the past as there is only so far fashion can go before it is then repeated. These four trends are just a small insight into what fashion will look like for the rest of this year and next… but I’m certainly not complaining!
Which is your fave trend? Let me know in the comments below! Also, don’t forget you can follow me on Instagram for more fashion inspo and to see how I style these trends in the future!
