90’s Baby!

Finally, the decade I’ve been looking forward to recreating the most – the nineties! As a 90’s baby myself, I couldn’t wait to throw it back to the golden decade that I was born in…

The nineties was an era that brought forward a youth movement in fashion as it was centred a lot around plain, minimalistic clothes as well as ‘grunge’ inspired garments. It was the decade where people became “too cool to care” what they were seen in, and so many adopted a very relaxed, carefree attitude towards fashion, and thus favoured comfort over style a lot of the time.

Some of the biggest trends of women’s fashion in the 90’s included iconic boob tubes, halterneck crop tops, vintage sweats, hoop earrings and of course, *HUGE* platform trainers. Hairstyles in the 90’s were anything but boring, and many completed their outfits with a statement scrunchie… or two. It was a decade of ultra-cool, casual chic fashion which is exactly the reason why I couldn’t wait to start recreating my own look!

Passed down from my sister, I’ve had this burgundy sweat for a good few years now; and after giving it a complete revamp by cutting it up last week, I just knew that this would be perfect item to star in my 90’s throwback outfit. The nineties was also the decade that birthed the newly reintroduced dad trainer, so I thought what better pair of shoes to choose other than my absolute faves from Zara… (it was a no brainer right?!)

My nineties inspired look

Funnily enough, my basketball socks came in very handy here as I chose to pair these with my chunky trainers for that ultimate sporty, but chilled out vibe. I finished my outfit off with a pair of denim shorts and basic silver hoops, and with the help of these tinted beauties (which may or may not be my mum’s tinted reading glasses, lol) my 90’s look was complete!

Similarly to my eighties look, I styled my hair in a half up, half down situ and followed Jamie Genevieve’s 90’s makeup tutorial on YouTube to make sure I got the whole look spot on. So not to toot my own horn or anything, but I think I did pretty well to create this look with nothing but my own wardrobe – what do you guys think?!

What has been your favourite look so far? And which of the decades do you wish you lived through the most? Before today, mine was definitely the 70’s, however since putting this look together and listening to hours of nineties music on Spotify, I just don’t know anymore…
