It’s safe to say the eighties was a maximalist’s dream… With bright colours, big shoulders and plenty of statement styles, it was all about excess throughout the 80s. It was also an era easily identified by the invention of hip-hop, punk and neon clothing; as sub cultures arose and social norms began to be broken. Women’s hair was over the top and voluminous, and everyone, no matter their gender, wore bold clashing makeup for every occasion.
Admittedly, many of the trends from the eighties are ones that we now love to hate, but saying this, they’re also finding their ways back into our wardrobes today. As such an iconic, memorable era there was absolutely no way I could miss this one out, right?!…
However, saying all of this, it actually proved quite hard to recreate an 80’s inspired look, but I think this was mainly down to the fact that the majority of the clothes that I own are black. In spite of this, I managed to dig out this neon coloured swimsuit which I paired with my mom style jeans from Whistles – these were the closest I could get to the acid wash style of jeans that were extremely popular in the 80’s.
Along with the swimsuit and jeans, in true eighties style, I made sure to make my make up as whacky and bold as possible and I topped this off with a half up, half down hairstyle using a white scrunchie from good old Primark.
I also added my trusty black Chuck Taylor Converse to my look as these proved to be another favoured option for casual fashion in the eighties. Unfortunately (and similarly to the other two decades), there were just too many trends to fit into one look today. So, if you’re interested in seeing another eighties outfit with a different twist on my blog, then please let me know in the comments below!
