How to Style a Midi Skirt

Happy Monday everyone!

I first of all just want to say that I hope everybody is okay and safe. It seems crazy what we’re going through at the moment, and the fact that everything and everywhere seems a little strange compared to usual doesn’t really sit well with me… But what we have to remember, is that this is only temporary and things will get better!

Understandably, most of us will be trying our bests to stay indoors as much as possible the next few days (or even weeks!), but since I took these photos a couple of weeks ago, I thought I’d write this post today to brighten up your Monday afternoon with a little bit of spring inspiration.

So, today it’s all about the midi skirthow to wear a midi skirt, and why you need a midi skirt in your life. As the sun has made a swift appearance here in the UK for the last few days, it has got me lusting and dreaming about all things spring – pastels, white blouses and of course, midi skirts. Despite the fact H&M and Zara have just released their new and beautiful spring collections, I have decided to base this post solely on garments I already have in my wardrobe – as I make more of a conscious effort to try and lengthen the lifecycle of my clothing.

I bought this Topshop satin midi skirt at the end of last summer and it’s safe to say that I have gotten my wear out of it, but that’s not stopping me wearing it again! This is the first ever midi skirt that I have owned and I have come to the realisation that I need a lot more in my life. It is one of those transitional pieces that looks good with everything – so effortless but so cool.

So keep scrolling to see my three fave looks and ways I like to wear my satin midi for three different occasions. I hope you enjoy!

SHOP ‘TIL YOU DROP

Outfit Details: Skirt (Topshop – Linked Similar), Belt (Primark), Bodysuit, Leather Jacket and Trainers (all Zara).

By adding a simple chunky trainer and leather jacket to this skirt, you instantly uplift the outfit to look more on trend and playful whilst keeping it nice and relaxed. The white from my trainers compliments and brightens the white tones within the skirt, making for a stylish and comfortable shopping outfit – a double win.

DID SOMEONE SAY BRUNCH?!

Outfit Details: Skirt (Topshop – Linked Similar), Belt (Primark), Bodysuit (Missguided), Trainers (Zara).

The main reason I bought this monochrome midi was because I knew it would go with pretty much anything. Here for my brunch outfit, I have added a vibrant purple body and again paired the skirt with my favourite white trainers from Zara. By adding some colour to the outfit, the skirt is transformed and gives off a completely different look. All I was missing was a pair of iconic oversized black sunnies – add to shopping list? Check.

DRINKS WITH THE GALS

Outfit Details: Skirt (Topshop – Linked Similar), Belt and Polo Neck (Primark), Boots (Raid, bought on ASOS).

Midi skirts paired with the right items, are the perfect alternative to ‘jeans and a nice top’. They look more glamorous and with a simple heeled boot, a lot of elegance is injected into the overall look. Classy, chic and very fashionable, what better outfit to wear when you go to meet your besties?!

Evidently, you can dress midi skirts up or down (whatever the occasion) and with very little effort too. The length of them makes them such a versatile, wardrobe staple and they instantly take your outfit from a 7 to a solid 9 and three quarters, if not 10.

So if you’re a midi skirt virgin like I was, then I urge you to buy one ASAP and you’ll see, your life (okay, maybe just your spring wardrobe for now) will be transformed.

Very cute styling! I live on midi skirts, they’re so versatile (as you’ve shown!), and so easy to style 🙂
